20.Waiting and patience
Q1 Why are some people unwilling to wait?
Ans- I think a lot of people are unwilling to wait because we're so used to everything being instant now. You can order food, stream movies, or buy something online and get it the next day, so when real life is slower, it feels frustrating. Many people also see waiting as a waste of time, like standing in a queue or being stuck in traffic, you feel you could be doing something else. Plus, people are always in a rush these days, so even waiting a few minutes feels like forever. And of course, some people are just naturally impatient and want results straight away. Personally, I think it is technology that has literally trained us to expect speed. We're used to things happening fast now (you click a button and it's done), so when you actually have to wait for something in real life, it feels super slow and super frustrating.
Q2 Compared to the past, are people less patient now?
Ans- Well, unfortunately, we are as the pace of life these days never seems to slow down and speed can be the deciding factor that puts us ahead of competition. We live under a weight of demands and have many tasks to carry out, so we always try harder to go faster and get really impatient when things go slowly or when we face obstacles as we feel under pressure to keep up. Society is now dominated by beliefs, attitudes and ways of thinking that elevate the value of impulse and loss of control to first line actions and reactions. So yeah, regrettably, nowadays people are much more impatient compared to the past.
Q3 What are the daily experiences that people have to wait for?
Q4 On what occasions do people usually need to wait?
Ans- Well, every morning and evening people have to wait for public transport in order to get either to work or home. Those who have their private transport often spend a lot of time in traffic jams waiting for an opportunity to continue their journey. If people work in big office buildings, they also have to wait for elevators to get to the floor they need. At work many people spend a lot of time waiting for important calls or emails, necessary information from colleagues or partners, results of their work and even end of office hours. If people get ill, they have to wait for physician services, if they get hungry, they wait for food after making an order in the cafe or queuing in the supermarket. Lots of people also wait for something good in life not always doing anything to get what they dream about.
Q5 Who behaves better when waiting, a child or an adult?
Ans- I'd say an adult is. Children can't deal even with small disappointments. It's so hard for them to cope with frustrating situations such as sitting in long traffic or waiting for something. They immediately erupt in anger if they can't get what they want. Even the most impatient adults react more calmly to life's twists and turns remaining as composed as possible even in the hardest situations. I guess it's because adults, unlike kids, can find ways to change the focus of their attention by occupying themselves with something else.
