22. Phone calls, silence, people behaviour
Q1- What are the differences between sitting next to someone who talks on the phone and sitting next to people who talk to each other while travelling by train?
Ans- From my experience, phone conversations are way more distracting. People usually speak louder when they're on the phone, probably without even realising it. Plus, you only hear one side of the conversation, and for some reason, that makes it harder to ignore. Your brain keeps guessing what the other person's saying. When two people are chatting face to face , it sounds more natural and less annoying. They also tend to be more aware of their surroundings and speak more quietly. Phone calls can sometimes get awkward too, like when someone starts talking about personal stuff in public. I've definitely had moments when I wished I could move to another seat. But of course, it depends . Some people are really considerate, no matter who they're talking to.
Q2- Should people be banned from talking loudly in public places?
Ans- No, I don't think people should be banned from talking loudly in public places because banning it sounds too extreme. It's hard to control what "loud' means. People have different voices and situations. And let's be real, public places aren't libraries. Streets, markets, parks they are meant to be lively, not silent. People also have the right to express themselves. Unless some ones being aggressive or rude, they shouldn't be punished for just talking. Plus, enforcing this kind of rule would be really tricky. Who decides what's 'too loud'? It could lead to more problems.
Q3- Is it acceptable to talk on the phone in public?
Ans- No, I don't think it's acceptable because it can be really annoying. Some people talk loudly or for too long, and it's just frustrating for everyone around them. it also invades people's space. Even if you're not involved, It feels like you're being forced to listen to something personal. There are better options. If it's not urgent, you can just send a message or wait until you're in a more private place. And let's face it, talking loudly on the phone make it look like you don't care about other people nearby. It just come across as rude, especially in quiet places like trains or waiting rooms.
Q4- What is your attitude to people who speak on the phone in public?
Q5- Do most people mind others talking on the phone in public places?
Ans- Well, my attitude to such people is quiet neutral if they keep their voice low and only speak for a short time. But in case they do it quiet loudly and expressively, of course, I find it annoying and distracting as such loud conversations are intrusive into my consciousness that usually disrupt my plans. What's more, I perceive them as a kind of invasion of my own personal space and peace of mind as it's just impossible to tune them out the moment I can't tolerate them any longer. So, it depends.
Q6- Should parents teach their children to behave well in public?
Ans- Yes, I think parents should teach their children to behave well in public because it helps kids learn respect for others. When children know how to talk act in public, they learn to be polite and not disturb other people. It also makes public spaces more pleasant for everyone. Nobody enjoys being around screaming kids or mess. Plus, it prepares them for real life. One day they will need to work, travel or study with others, so learning basic manners early is important. Another thing is, bad behaviour reflects on the parents. Lets be honest, when a child is acting out in a public, most people blame the parents. So yeah, I think it's just a part of raising responsible people.
Q7- Why do some people not care that there behaviour disturbs people around them?
Ans- Oh, I guess, first of all, because they are just ill-mannered or emotionally unintelligent and don't know how to interact socially or because they may not be aware that they are infringing on one's space and just can't comprehend their behaviour as a hurtful due to the fact that they adopted such a value system in their families. Some people may also do because they enjoy pushing the limits of others oh, or because they simply have a lack of empathy. Many men, many reasons.
