27.Decision Making

Q1- At the what age can children make decisions on their own?

Ans- Oh, I'd say kids can make decisions on their own at any age. If it happens in a controlled setting with their parents as their guides or if it happens when parents see that their kids demonstrate maturity and readiness to make decisions relevant to their daily experience. What i mean is that children can make their own decisions when they are ready to make choices without their parents help and are able to understand the information, use it to weigh the pros and cons and effectively communicate their decision defending their reasoning. So, I'd say age is not what it's about.

Q2- What decisions can children make by themselves?

Ans- Well, it really depends on the child's age younger kids like five to nine years old can make small every day decisions. For example, they might choose what toys to play with, what clothes to wear even if the outfit looks a bit funny, or what snack they want after school. The older they get, the more confident and independent they usually become, and the more serious decisions they tend to make. They might decide what hobbies to try such as joining a sports managing a bit of pocket money and learn how to save or spend it. Teenagers can make even bigger decisions. Many of them choose which subjects to focus on at school or start thinking about what kind of job they might want in the future.
