Why do shopping malls often have background music?

Would people's shopping behavior be affected in a shop with music?

Sample Answer

Oh, I guess generally because it has a significant effect on customers as it determines whether they want to spend time at a shop or not, as well as employees as I'm more than sure that it improves their performance. There is no doubt that background music contributes to the mood and atmosphere of a shop, puts people in the right mood and increases sales opportunities and revenue as it helps create a personal space for customers, giving them privacy as they walk around the store and browse the products which, in turn, affects customers' purchase decision by up to 40%. Well, and one more reason I'd like to add is because music at a store helps customers feel they had a positive experience, even if they spent time waiting line or waiting to speak to a customer service associate, and this feeling they had a post experience encourages them to get back to the shop again and again.
