58.Technology, communication

Q.1 What are the differences between the technology of the past and that of today?

Ans-Honestly, I think one of the biggest differences is that online friendship lets people make friends from anywhere in the world without leaving their home. That's really useful if people have hobbies or interests that are rare locally, because they can still find like-minded people. Online friendships can also be faster and more convenient, but sometimes they feel less personal compared to real-life ones.

Another thing is that online friendships often make it harder to trust fully because people don't see their online friends in real life, and messages or video calls don't show all the emotions. In real life, people can notice body language, tone of voice, and little expressions, which makes it easier to understand someone. Real-life friendships also often feel more stable, especially when friends spend time together doing things they both enjoy. That said, online friends can still be really meaningful, but the way people connect and the level of trust is usually different.

Q.2 What are the differences between making friends in real life and online?

Ans-On the one hand, today's technology is weakening communication skills because using technology has lead to a number of devastating effects such as social isolation because of a lack of contact with other people in normal daily living. People text instead of making a call, or text instead of talking in person. As a result, more and more people are losing their ability to communicate. Some people have trouble even initiating a face-to-face conversation, because it is always done through a text message. Others don't know what it means to listen to another person without interrupting them. On the other hand, if it weren't for technology, it would be hard, or even impossible, for people who live in different countries to communicate with each other. And even people living in the same city would communicate less if they couldn't take advantage of technology. So, technology does help busy people keep in touch with their friends, relatives or colleagues.

Q.3 Does technological development have a negative impact on communication among people?

Ans-On the one hand, and it's obvious, technology makes it easier to keep in touch with friends and relatives, and therefore they help you keep connected with your family and friends no matter how far apart you are. You can text them, make video calls any time you want. You can disclose any personal information and respond to others in their social networks.

However, smartphones and tablets, originally designed as a communication tool, actually hinder rather than foster interpersonal connectedness.

Unfortunately, there are many situations in which you ignore friends in favor of a mobile phone. For example, you feel the quick buzz of our phone and feel compelled to see what's happening, even if that means turning your attention away from other people. When you are on your phone, you are not looking at other people and not reading their facial expressions, tears in their eyes, frowns, smiles.

You don't hear the nuances in their tone of voice, or notice their body posture. For example, I used to have a friend who checked her phone so much when we were together that I finally told her she had to choose me or her phone. Also, there are many situations in which you are mindlessly scrolling through the latest news or playing a game, instead of chatting with your friends. But giving your time, energy, thought, and attention to your smartphone, smartwatch, video game system instead of the person you're with is gradually ruining your relationship 'cause your friends and family may feel ignored and pushed away.I'll tell you more, just having a phone out and present during a conversation (say, on the table between you and your friend) interferes with the sense of connection to the other person and the quality of the conversation. This phenomenon is especially the case during meaningful conversations.

Q.4 Do you think technology unites or separates people?

Q.5 What effects does technology have on people's relationships?

Ans-To my mind, the main differences between talking with friends online and face-to-face concern how we express ourselves and the feeling of connection. When we talk online, we mostly use words and emojis, but in person we can also use facial expressions, gestures, and tone of voice. This makes face-to-face conversations feel more personal and emotionally deep. Another difference is the speed and style of communication. Online, people often take time to reply or do other things at the same time, while in real life conversations happen in the moment. Online chatting is definitely more convenient, especially if friends live far away.

But there's also a higher risk of misunderstanding, since it's harder to know how someone really feels just from text. I think face-to-face talks often happen in a more focused and private setting, which helps people connect better.

Q.6 What are the differences between talking with friends online and face-to-face?

Q.7 What technology do people currently use?

Ans-In today's world, it's hard to imagine our lives without the numerous technologies that have become an integral part of our daily routine. Among these, smartphones are perhaps the most widely used devices, offering us a plethora of features such as communication, entertainment, and productivity tools. Another popular device that provides us with flexibility in terms of work and internet browsing is laptops. Social media has taken over the world by storm and has become an inseparable part of modern life. With social media platforms, people can connect with others and share their thoughts and experiences. Cloud storage services have made it effortless for us to store and access files from anywhere, while video conferencing tools have allowed us to communicate face-to-face with people from around the world. In recent times, streaming services like Netflix and Amazon Prime Video have revolutionized the way people consume media, while fitness trackers have helped us to monitor and improve our health. The advent of virtual assistants like Alexa and Siri has made it easier for us to control devices and get information using just our voice. Additionally, online shopping platforms have made it possible to purchase goods and services from any part of the world. Last but not least, augmented reality technologies such as Snapchat and Pokemon Go have introduced new and exciting ways to interact with our surroundings.

Overall, technology has transformed the way we live, enabling us to stay connected, productive, and entertained at all times and pushing us to use it on a daily basis.
