61.Handicrafts

i. What handicrafts do people in your country like to make?

It seems to me by far the most popular activity with people is knitting as it's an inexpensive, yet rewarding activity. People knit scarves sweaters, socks and many other things. Some of them become so skillful that what starts out as a hobby turns into a business. Other than that, people like making pots and bowls bracelets and necklaces, clothes and furniture, Such crafty things as scrapbooks, cards, straw baskets and toys are also popular. Well, I would say the number one activity in China is making kites. They are made either of paper or silk and always hand-painted Also, many people are keen on making paper cuttings which are used to decorate walls windows, doors and lanterns. I can also safely say that a number of people like making figurines of clay and dough.

ii. Do you like making things by hand?

iii. Do you think it's good for children to learn to make things by hand?

Yeah! l' ve been knitting for years and I can safely say it's the best way to relax after a hard day. It ' s like escaping into a different world. It usually takes me a while to become entirely absorbed in the activity, but once I've done that, relax and get all problems out of my head One more reason why I like it is that I know that no one else in the world has an identical item And there are no limits to what I make.

A Oh, no. guess it's more trouble than it's worth. UR I like to have well-made practical things, But, first of all, to say that I'm not good at doing crafty things is to say nothing. And all such activities take so much time that by the moment you buy all supplies and decide what to make, you could have bought it in a store Such activities are not for me. Do you think it's good for children to learn to make things by hand? Yeah, I suppose no matter which handicraft you choose, for one thing, it's a great way for children to develop manual dexterity. By cutting, sticking, scrunching_ papers and by rolling, squeezing, twisting some materials such as clay, they may_ develop fine motor skills and practice eye-hand coordination. Also, learning to make things by hand can be invaluable when it comes to developing patience and assiduity which is important for school children.

I m in two minds about it. On the one hand, it's definitely beneficial for kids. For example, it's a great way to cultivate appreciation of beauty and encourage children to use their imagination. But it can be dangerous. Even if you are sitting next to your child, they might cut or scratch themselves or swallow something if you let your guard down for one minute.
