Names

Q1.Is it difficult for you to remember people's names?

Ans:Well, I wouldn't say it is as, luckily, in most cases I memorize new names easily, especially if I'm focused enough when someone introduces themselves to me. Though, I can't say that I never have trouble remembering names, especially the names of people I've met only once or twice.

Sometimes it just seems to me that some people's names go in one ear and out the other, and I just have to try hard to remember them.

Q2.How do you remember people's names?

Ans:Well, Whenever I get someone's name, I don't just nod and continue the conversation, I try to plug the name into what I'm saying. For example, if the man in front of me says his name is David, I say, 'Hi, David, nice to meet you.' Or I can ask a question with his name at the end, 'How do you like this event, David?' Then I use the name throughout the conversation, but sparingly, and not in a repetitive way. And, of course, after meeting someone, I put them into my contacts with a few pieces of information that will help me remember this person. I almost never connect a new name with a visual image or use any other mnemonic devices. I just try to be as focused as I can when people introduce themselves to me.

Q3.How do you feel when people can't remember your name?

Ans:Well, it depends on whether we've communicated a lot or just met a couple of times. In the former case, I usually feel upset and embarrassed as it shows me that I haven't been interesting enough for the person to memorize my name, while in the latter case, I feel quite relaxed as I understand that it's impossible to memorize the names of all people you've ever come across.

Q4.Do you often forget people's names?

Ans:I'd say it happens quite seldom as I understand how important it is to remember people's names and always do my best not to make people upset.
