66.Getting up early
Q.1 Why do people get up early?
Ans-To my mind, people get up early either because they have to or because they like to. I think the majority of people struggle to be up with the birds, but their jobs require them to start early. I mean healthcare, transportation and public safety jobs. Other people start their working day a little later but despite this they have to get up early 'cause commuting is easier if they leave earlier. There is, though, a proportion of people who get up early 'cause they say getting up early gives the body a chance to reach peak wakefulness naturally. And they really like to have enough time to get ready for work or get their kids ready for school without rushing the process. And, of course, I can't help mentioning those who believe that being a morning person is inexorably linked with success in life and business. They say Virgin Group chairman Richard Branson is up out of bed each day at 5 am, Apple CEO Tim Cook gets up at 4 am.
So they make themselves get up early whether they like it or not, usually saying this habit helps them get more work done. But for me it's hard to believe in this as I'm not a natural morning person, and my 8am alarm is usually the most unwelcome sound in the world.
Q.2 Are there any situations when it's not good to arrive early?
Q.3 Is it good to arrive early in any situation?
Ans-Well, I think there are quite a few situations when arriving early may be impolite, uncomfortable or even embarrassing. If we consider work situations, I guess it's not that good to arrive early at out-of-office and inter-office meetings because in the former case, once you arrive, the person you'll be meeting will feel the need or even the pressure to stop what they are doing to pay attention to you, and in the latter case, it might send a signal that you don't have much on your to-do list. As far as off-work situations are concerned, I think it's not good to arrive early at parties and meals at home as it will prevent the host or hostess to take care of all the last-minute details such as lighting candles or setting out food and beverages, and at all kinds of social and civic-group meetings as it might make the host feel the need to entertain you before the gathering, which may break their personal plans for this time period.
Q.4 Why do some people stay up late at night?
Ans-Oh, yeah, they do. I think they naturally feel wakeful in the late evening and don't go to bed early just because they don't want and can't sleep before midnight. I also reckon they have more freedom in their own ways when the rest of the family is sleeping and, staying up late, just push boundaries and underline their growing independence. What is more, I can assume that night time is the best time for teenagers to communicate with each other, so, even having overpowering desire to sleep, they will imitate the behavior of their friends who follow night routine at large.
Q.5 Is it easy to get up early?
Ans-Well, it depends. This can be really easy if you go to bed early or if you are motivated to accomplish something as soon as possible and want to get up at sunrise to have plenty of time ahead. You can also wake up easily if fresh air gets to the room and fills your lungs with oxygen, if you smell coffee or if the sun shines upon your eyes. But it can be quite challenging to be up early if you feel down or didn't sleep enough the night before, if you suffer from jet lag or if it's cold and rainy outside. So, it depends, as I said before.
