Teaching, learning
Q1.Is it important for people to learn new skills all life long?
Ans:Definitely 'yes' as lifelong learning is an indispensable tool for every career and organization. It forms part of people's personal and professional development in an effort to avoid stagnation and reach their full potential. It also helps people expand their skill set and develop future opportunities. The more people learn, the better they'll get at seeing more sides of the same situation. One more advantage of continuous learning new things, to my mind, is a feeling of accomplishment, which boosts people's confidence in their own capabilities and makes it easier for them to step out of their comfort zone and move up the career ladder or adapt to unexpected changes such as losing their job or having to depend on new skills to find a new job. So, yeah, adults must want to constantly learn new things, especially if they want to remain relevant to their industry.
Q2.What age will make it difficult for people to master new skills?
Q3.Is it hard for old people to learn new skills?
Ans:Well, it seems to me that people start having difficulties with mastering new skills at the age of 60 or 65, and it happens not because of some age physical changes they have but just because they have come to believe that they are too old to learn. By this age many people have already made the conscious decision to stop learning even though they may not always realize it. Some of them have decided so because they think that they have already mastered all the skills they need and no longer need to master new skills to survive. Others have made this decision just because they have got tired of learning. All in all, I am more than sure that people of any age can learn whatever they want or need if they are patient and motivated enough because the older they are, the longer it can take to master something.
Q4.How can we know what to do when we want to learn something new?
Ans:Well, when it comes to learning something new, there are a few key strategies that can help us achieve our goals and approach the process with confidence. Firstly, we should assess our current knowledge of the subject to determine what specific areas we need to focus on. Then, we should determine our learning style, whether it be visual, auditory, or another type, and seek out resources that cater to our style. It's important to start with the basics to build a solid foundation and work our way up to more complex concepts. We shouldn't be afraid to ask questions or seek help from others, such as a teacher, mentor, or peer, to clarify our understanding. Finally, we should embrace the process of experimentation and making mistakes. The more we experiment and try new things, the more we'll learn and grow. So, we should approach learning with an open mind and a willingness to continuously seek out new information and opportunities for growth.
Q5.What practical skills can young people teach old people?
Ans:In my opinion, young people can teach old people a variety of practical skills, depending on their interests and abilities. First of all, many young people are very comfortable with technology and may be able to teach older people how to use smartphones, tablets, laptops, and other devices. They can also show older people how to navigate online platforms, do online shopping and other internet-based activities. Plus, young people can teach old people how to use social media platforms to stay connected with others and to stay up-to-date on current events, how to use apps, for example, fitness apps or equipment to stay active and healthy, and messengers to communicate with family and friends. And, of course, younger people can teach seniors to use modern kitchen equipment and utensils such as a slow cooker or coffee machine.
Q6.What skills can younger people learn from older people?
Ans:Well, to my mind, older people can teach younger people the most important life lessons and skills because they are a source of wise words and sage advice as they have been through some harsh times and know what really matters in life. For example, they can teach the young how to cook, knit, do laundry, iron clothes and even how to fix things instead of replacing them because they know that in some life situations the skills to do things with your own hands will really matter. And, of course, they can help young people with getting the hang of such skills as making a budget or saving for something as well as such skills as weighing out the pros and cons of a decision and resolving conflicts because they've done it plenty of times during their life and know how to do it successfully.
Q7.Do you think playing computer games can help people develop skills?
Ans:Well, the greatest benefit online gaming brings to people, to my mind, is enhanced cognitive skills as it improves attention, focus and reaction time of a person as well as helps people develop logic, accuracy and ability to think outside of the box. It also helps people in developing hand-eye coordination... oh, and It helps people deveop strategic thinking and work towards meaningful goals no matter what... Finally, playing computer games improves people's computer fluency and general Internet navigation, which is very important nowadays.
Q8.Where can we learn practical skills?
Ans:Well, there is a variety of ways to learn practical skills nowadays. The most traditional of them are to ask a friend who already has this skill to show and practise it with you, address a specialist with a request for an expert advice or attend some training programmes, masterclasses or workshops. There are also many much more popular present-day alternatives such as video tutorials, blogs and forums, mobile applications and webinars which are successfully used for learning and practising different kinds of skills just with a click of a button without a need to leave your room.
Q9.Who would you learn a skill from, friends, teachers or parents?
Ans:Well, I think it would depend on the skill I need to learn and my mood on that day. Of course, as I'm a young person who likes communicating with peers, I think in most cases it's more fun to learn from a friend. What is more, I feel more comfortable with a friend if I fail to master the skill at once. At times it's much better to learn from teachers as they are professional and have experience of helping people master this certain skill, which would make it possible to teach me faster than in case with a friend. Parents can also be great instructors because they want the best for me and would teach me with pleasure. Moreover, it would be a good reason to spend more time with mum and dad. To sum up, there are advantages of having all of them as mentors.
