75.Teamwork, leadership

Q.1 Do you prefer to work in a team or own your own?

Q.2 Why do some people prefer to work on their own?

Ans-Well, I enjoy both and choose the style depending on the project. If the project requires the coordinated actions of many different professionals and specialists to achieve defined objectives, of course, I opt for working in a team as I have a limited set of skills and knowledge and need others' help and unique perspectives to solve difficult problems and see beyond my blind spots. In such projects I enjoy brainstorming and collaborating with my colleagues, understanding that two heads are always better than one. But... If I don't need anybody's help to create an effective solution, I choose working on the task on my own as I shine when I'm insulated from the interruptions of a hectic workplace and when I'm given the freedom to adapt my work environment to suit my strengths and weaknesses. Being the only responsible person helps me concentrate easier and work faster as well as lets me achieve the within the shortest possible time.

Q.3 What kinds of jobs require people to work in a team?

Ans-Well, first of all, all kinds of jobs in which people work as a couple and in groups. I mean such jobs as doctors and nurses, chefs and cooks, firefighters, policemen and even football players. Teamwork in these jobs is crucial to facilitating effective communication and promoting positive outcomes.

Though, to my mind, nowadays teamwork is required for almost every industry, ranging from business solutions to IT services, as there are really a lot of jobs that involve interacting with other people and teaming up for contributing individual ideas to the success of the company. For example, a coder makes an app, but then the app needs to be tested for bugs, errors, defects or any problem that the end-user may come across; and this work is done by a tester. Also, one firefighter is normally unable to put out the fire. Finally, marketing managers often collaborate with sales engineers, financial and production staff.

Q.4 What qualities do you think a good team member should have?

Ans-Oh, I guess that a good team member should, first of all, be honest and fair as well as responsible and reliable. They should always be committed to team objectives, complement skills of other team members and, of course, share the load with their teammates. A good team member should also be very positive with good communication skills and an ability to adapt to new people and conditions quickly and easily. I would also mention such things as readiness to help, trust, support and genuine concern for other team members and, of course, an ability to compromise as important characteristics of a good team member.
