Reading
Q1.What's the difference between films and books?
Q2.Do you prefer book or movies?
Q3.Is it important to read a book before watching a movie version of it?
Ans:Well, first of all, books give in-depth understanding of characters and plot while movies are more a kind of summary of books. What is more, while reading a book we pay attention to every line, imagine how things are going and create the scenes in our heads in fine detail. When it comes to movies we just see everything as it is without giving our imagination a chance to fill our heads with amazing pictures which usually far exceed the visual effects displayed in movies. And the last difference I should mention is the fact that watching a movie is quite quick while reading a book is a lengthy process which makes us even more involved in the plot and extends our pleasure.
Q4.Do people read more nowadays?
Ans:Well, it's quite hard to say exactly but I guess not less for sure 'cause more people can afford to read nowadays thanks to e-books which have a low price. I can also say that more and more people feel some 'reading hunger', some of them for classical literature but most for professional and business books which help them bolster their networking, leadership and time-management skills. One more factor which makes me think that people read more these days is the fact that it's easy to pick reading material on the Internet from the Internet junk to worthy literature. So, present-day people definitely read more, to my mind.
Q5.How can reading help children?
Q6.Do you think parents should help their children develop the reading habit from an early age?
Ans:For one thing, reading improves brain development and increases discipline, which opens the door to the kids' early academic success. Secondly, reading plays an important role in language development. I mean it improves kids' linguistic skills in the form of a richer vocabulary, correct grammar, better writing and spelling and more articulate oral communication. Also, children are curious, and they ask 100 questions per day, half of which parents struggle to answer. So it is reading that can satisfies kids' curiosity by providing explanations of how things work. Otherwise, many parents would go crazy. Finally, reading helps children practice imagination by letting the words describe a certain image while the reader manipulates the picture in the mind.
Q7.Do you think old people spend more time reading than young people?
Ans:Honestly, reading doesn't really depend on age. It's more about personality. Some are naturally curious and love stories, so they'll always find time for books. Habits matter too. Those who grew up in families where books were important usually keep that habit later in life. Free time makes a big difference. Someone with a busy job or little kids often reads less, while students or retired folks usually have more hours to spare. Interests also play a role: fans of fantasy, history, or science can spend hours reading, while others prefer movies instead.Mood has an effect as well. During stressful times, hardly anyone picks up a book, but when life feels calmer, there's more reading going on. Goals are another factor. Those who want to grow or succeed often read more, because they see it as the fastest way to get ahead. And access matters, too: with a library nearby, a Kindle, or friends recommending titles, reading naturally becomes a bigger part of life. So in the end, it's not really about being young or old. It's more about lifestyle, habits, and personality.
Q8.What are the types of books that young people like to read?
Ans:I think young people enjoy a pretty wide range of books, but some genres are definitely more popular than others. Fantasy is probably the biggest one, because teenagers love escaping into magical worlds with dragons, wizards, and epic battles.Romance is also really common, since they're curious about love and relationships, and books let them dream about it without all the real-life drama.Mystery and thrillers are popular too, because young people like the suspense and the challenge of figuring out who the bad guy is. And graphic novels or comics are huge, since they're easy to read and the pictures make the story come alive. For some kids, if it weren't for comics, they probably wouldn't read at all. Adventure books are another favorite, because not every teenager gets to travel or do exciting things in real life, so reading gives them that feeling. Humor is big as well, since school and exams can be stressful, and funny stories are just a simple way to relax. And of course, there are things like sci-fi, which attracts people who are into technology or space, and even biographies of celebrities or athletes, because young people like to know how their idols actually grew up and what problems they had.
Q9.Do you think reading books can make people happier?
Ans:Absolutely. First of all, books are like a gateway to another world. When we read, we can leave behind our normal lives and get lost in exciting stories and different places. I mean it's like going on an adventure without even leaving our cozy chair. This kind of escape brings us so much happiness and fun because it helps us forget about our everyday problems for a while. Secondly, books can make you feel all sorts of emotions. When authors tell captivating stories, they create characters and narratives that you can relate to on an emotional level. This connection you feel can bring you comfort, make you feel understood, and even give you a sense of shared experiences with the characters. And this emotional bond can actually make you happier.
Q10.What books do children like to read?
Ans:Oh, as far as I know, little kids are reading different books these days. Some of them, especially girls, enjoy reading books about unicorn magic, for instance, Unicorn and Yeti, as first of all, kids really love a little bit of magic and glitter, and secondly, because these books open up all kinds of dazzling doors for them. Other children can't live without books about dragons or books inspired by video games, like the Press Start series as kids are captivated by their rich worlds, vast array of characters, villains that must be outsmarted, and action-packed plots. Well, and books about animals, of course, especially about pugs with personality, as most kids love dogs, and love to imagine what they are thinking.
Q11.Is reading books more popular with boys or with girls?
Ans:I don't know for sure, but it seems to me girls read more frequently and longer than boys 'cause, first of all, girls tend to do almost everything more thoroughly than boys. Plus, boys tend to be more vulnerable than girls to peer pressure, and that could discourage them from activities like reading that are perceived to be 'uncool'. And I think boys are more careless about some, if not most, school subjects and educational activities such as reading. But maybe, there are no gender differences in reading habits among boys and girls. Maybe, whether or not a child likes reading depends on their upbringing and social background.
Q12.Some people say that it's easier for children who start reading at a young age to succeed. Do you agree?
Ans:Of course, I do as reading has a powerful effect on human capacity to learn, develop and grow, which is the key to success in life. As far as early reading is concerned, it's an essential element that those who want to succeed in life can't do without because it helps to develop a young child's brain, improves their attention span and concentration and makes kids competent researchers who are able to study effectively and extract relevant and necessary information from books, magazines and websites. What is more, early reading sparks the kids' curiosity about people, places and things, and at the same time satisfies their curiosity by providing kids with explanations of how things work. In turn, these explanations make kids not only lifelong readers but also lifelong learners, which helps them open doors to success both personally and professionally later in life.
