1. Work or Study

Part 1 Introduction

1. Do you work or are you a student?

What work do you do? What subjects are you studying?

Currently, I'm in my senior year of high school. And I'm graduating this year. Now I'm working hard in order to get passing grades 'cause I'm planning to study abroad. I want to major in Journalism 'cause I've always had a strong passion for writing, and I don't see myself doing anything else. And there's a great two-year diploma Journalism program at Seneca college in Canada. So if everything is ok, 9 months from now I'll be studying there. And hopefully not online.

2. Why did you choose that job?

Why did you choose to study that subject?

Why did you choose that job?

Well, I guess the primary reason why I decided to pursue a career in Finance was that I really loved Math's at school as I was always good at numbers. And because of this, I thought it was the only possible choice I could make. So it wasn't a tough decision. And, thank God, I have never regretted it.

Why did you choose to study that subject?

Back in the day when I was a high school student, I had an idea that I might like to do something related to fashion, but my parents insisted on my choosing Accounting. Frankly, I wish I hadn't listened to them as I don't really enjoy being an accountant.

3. Do you like your job?

Is there anything you dislike about your job?

Do you like your job?

Yeah I do. What I love the most about my job is that it never gets boring. Mainly because I have an opportunity to take on new challenges all the time, which I really like. In fact, the more challenging the task or the project, the more I like it. You know, if I could do the work with my eyes closed, I swear I would die of boredom, and I would quit my job even though it pays really well. So every time my boss gives me a new challenging task, I feel totally psyched. You know, there is just something beautiful about encountering obstacles and finding ways to overcome them. And then every time I finish a difficult project or task successfully, I feel like I'm flying. My confidence skyrockets and I feel proud of myself, which helps me grow both professionally and personally, and expand my comfort zone.

What do you dislike about your job?

The only thing I don't like is too much responsibility. You know, I feel like I have the weight of the world on my shoulders. And it's exhausting. Of course, when I chose this job, I knew what I was getting into, but now I'm feeling so overwhelmed that I just wanna stop and shake my shoulders to get rid of this burden.

4. What do you like about your studies?

I will probably sound a bit nerdy, but I'm happy that school provides me with an opportunity to acquire knowledge about things I didn't know before. I guess that most subjects, we are taught, will help us to succeed in the future. So I never miss lessons and complete all the assignments on time.

5. What do you dislike about your studies?

As a high school student, I can safely say that I dislike school very strongly mainly because the teachers pile so much work onto us that we hardly get 5 hours of sleep a night during an average school week. You see, no matter when I go to bed, I have to wake up early because my classes usually start at 8 am. To top it off, most subjects are boring and irrelevant to our future careers. So it causes a lot of stress, making me and my fellow students reluctant to study.

6. What was your dream job when you were young?

Oh, when I was younger, I wanted to either become a CEO of a big company or be self-employed. I was really sure that this would bring me an adequate remuneration and, as a result, a sense of satisfaction. What is more, I understood that I was good at problem-solving and managing people, could take on responsibility and work under pressure, which was very important for pursuing such careers.

7. Have you changed your mind on your dream job?

Well, on the whole, 'no' as this is what I still dream about. However, now I realize that there are quite a lot of things in this career which I didn't think about at a younger age, for example, the fact that working under pressure is robbing people of their life, taking them from their families and pushing them to participate in the rat race in order to get recognition and good money.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

1. Please describe your hometown a little?

What is your town well-known for?

Do you like your home town?

Please describe your hometown a little?

Well, Delhi is the capital of India and by far the largest city in the country. It's a lively and exciting city with something for everyone to enjoy. In my opinion, one of the best things about Delhi is the food. There are so many different types of dishes to try, from traditional Indian food to international flavors. The streets are packed with food stalls and restaurants. Plus, living in Delhi is never boring as the city offers a wide variety of entertainment options. There's always so much to see and do here. For example, there are festivals and events happening throughout the year, like Lohri, Dilli ke Pakwan, and many other festivals that are not unique to Delhi specifically. I mean those that are celebrated throughout the country. Delhi is also a great place to shop. There are lots of shopping districts, like Connaught Place, Karol Bagh, and Chandni Chowk, where you can find everything from. designer brands to handmade crafts. Finally, due to its rich history and cultural attractions, including temples and other landmarks like the Red Fort, the India Gate, and the Qutub Minar, Dehi is a popular destination for tourists.

What is your city famous for?

Ludhiana is known as the industrial capital of Punjab and is often referred to as the 'Manchester of India' due to its flourishing textile manufacturing sector. The city is well-known for its expertise in producing a wide range of high-quality textiles, including knitted clothing, woven garments, fabrics for home furnishings, and other textile products.

Tell me a little about yo your hometown?

I live in Ludhiana, the largest and most populous city in Punjab, India. Also, it's a key industrial center in Northern India and greatly contributes to the state's economy. The city is situated on the banks of the Sutlej River, approximately 310 kilometers northwest of New Delhi, the capital city. My hometown has two distinct parts: the old city, also known as the walled city, and the new city. The old city has narrow streets, lively markets, and historical landmarks, while the new city has modern infrastructure, wide roads, shopping malls, and residential complexes.

2. Is that a big city or a small place?

Ludhiana is the largest city in the state of Punjab. Its total land area is slightly bigger than 300 square kilometres, which accounts for approximately one-fifth of the total land area of London, and which is around half the size of Mumbai, the largest city in India. So it takes the title of the largest city in Punjab not because it matches the scale of global metropolises, but because the other cities in Punjab are comparatively smaller. Another way for you to get an idea of Ludhiana's size is to compare it to other well-known cities. For instance, it's smaller than Venice, Italy, but it's bigger than Edinburgh, Scotland.

3. How long have you been living there?

Well, I've been living there since I was born. At times I leave the city just for a while when I go on holidays.

4. Do you think you will continue living there for a long time?

Every time an opportunity to move to a different place turns up, I come to realise that I want to be here above everywhere else as the city is rich in everything you could possibly desire. There are lots of things to do and places to go. What is most important for me is that X is the city of infinite possibilities for ambitious and career-driven people like me as a lot of large international companies have chosen it for their headquarters.

5. Would you like to live in the countryside in the future?

Have you ever lived in the countryside?

Do you ever spend time in the countryside?

What is the difference between living in the countryside and the city?

Would you like to live in the countryside in the future?

Oh no! Not until I retire! I'm only 25 and dreaming of a high-flying career, but I'm afraid that living in the countryside will leave my career in tatters. Besides, I'm a very active and sociable person, so I think I will be bored to death being deprived of an active social life and abundance of entertainment options a big city provides.

What is the difference between living in the countryside and the city?

I guess that the most striking difference is that in the countryside there isn't much traffic even during rush hours. Again, as there are fewer vehicles emitting exhaust fumes, rural areas are nowhere near as polluted as urban ones. So the air is definitely fresher. This is why it's highly likely that people living in the country live longer. However, there may be a number of people who won't appreciate these benefits as there aren't many opportunities for professional growth and the choice of facilities is limited.

6. What do people living in the countryside like to do?

What do you like to do in the countryside?

There's generally not much to do in the countryside, especially in the winter, so I'm sure the majority of young people like to chat with their friend online or play computer games. They may also like to get together in order to play football, ride bicycles or explore the surroundings. This is because if children are not glued to their devices, they usually have active pastime. The more adventurous, the better again, as the number of recreational facilities is severely limited in the countryside, it seems to me that the most popular activity with adults is having barbeque parties or just chatting with their neighbors over the fence.

7. How has your town changed over the last 20 years?

Oh, I would say it has undergone sweeping changes 'cause those who haven't been there for a long time can hardly recognize it. First of all, the general quality of the city landscape has improved, so it's way more beautiful now. For instance, many ancient buildings have been restored and modern ones have been erected. Therefore, it has turned into a remarkable tourist attraction.

2. Hometown

3. Home Decoration

1. Can you describe the place where you live?

What kind of housing accommodation do you live?

What do you like about your flat?

Which room does your family spend most of the time in?

I would rather choose blue for my bedroom as it is believed to guarantee the best night's sleep by reducing heart pressure and heart rate. However, I would balance it with warm hues for furnishings and fabrics.

2. What can you see from the windows where you live?

I would avoid stimulating colours, for instance, large splashes of red and yellow or sharp contrasting colours such as black and white. This is because my bedroom should be a place of peace and tranquility rather than a stimulating environment.

I would advise against too much black as it will make me feel on the low side or even depressed. Similarly, I would try to avoid red because I will never have deep sleep or possibly have trouble falling asleep as it is not an easy bedroom colour to relax.

3. Do you prefer living in a house or a flat?

My dwelling is a one-room minimalist-style flat. I guess if I buy one more piece of furniture, there won't be enough room to swing a cat in my flat. There's a wardrobe with wall-to-wall and floor-to-ceiling mirrored sliding doors. Were it not for this wardrobe, my room would have got bogged down by clutter. Regrettably, this wardrobe has become a clutter hot spot itself, but all the disarray is inside so nobody sees it. There is also a wall-mounted flat-screen TV and a bed.

What do you like about your flat?

What I particularly like is that it reflects my personality, so I feel really comfortable being at home. Also, it gives me the feeling of stepping into a safe, personal refuge.

4. What would you like to change in your flat?

What do you dislike about your flat?

Unfortunately, as I live in a huge industrial city, every time I look out of the window, I see nothing but concrete jungle. As I live in a house, I have a very nice view of the river and forest from the window. It's especially beautiful at dawn and at dusk.

What would you like to change in your flat?

I would like to breathe more life into it by hanging some paintings on the walls or putting a potted plant on the window sill.

4. Colors

1. What color car would you choose to buy?

Well, I'm a very practical person, so I would opt for a white one. First of all, I like that simple, less-is-more look. Also, scratches would be less noticeable and it would be easier to repair should any mishaps occur. And the most important thing is that white cars rank really high in resale value, so they would be very good investment.

2. What is your favourite colour?

What is the most popular color in your country?

It is yellow that I like as it seems to exude nothing but warmth and happiness. This is the only color that makes me feel energetic and elated. I think this is the best color to signify positive emotions.

3. Do you think colors influence you?

Do you think colors are important?

Absolutely yes. Not only do they influence our mood, but they also cause psychological and physiological reactions. For example, green is known to have soothing properties and red has been found to increase our craving for food.

Definitely, yes. Colors have a big impact on me. I've noticed that blue reduces stress and makes me calm, whereas white makes me feel more energetic and refreshed.

Definitely! For example, the colors you use to decorate your home can have a profound effect on the emotional well-being of you and your family. Further, the color of your car sends a subliminal message to people telling who you are and what you want to be.

Oh yeah, I believe the importance of colors cannot be overestimated. What I want to say is what color you paint your walls isn't just a matter of aesthetics. It's a powerful tool that can be leveraged to affect emotions and behavior.

Yeah, colors are of the utmost importance in many spheres of our lives. They have the power to change the shape and size of furnishings as well as the shape and size of the room. Sometimes they can be an extension of your personality. What is interesting is that the same color can have different effects. Red can both boost your confidence and make you feel agitated or irritated.

4. Were colors important to you when you were child?

I don't remember for sure but I guess back in the day colours must have been the least of my concerns.

Oh, yeah. I was really hard to please. I wanted my clothes to be bright, otherwise I simply refused to put them on, and my parents couldn't do anything to make me change my mind. I behaved in the same way when it came to colours of toys.

Yeah, I remember back in the day I was really finicky, so I always participated in choosing the colours of the room walls, toys or clothes.

5. What colour clothes do you like to wear?

Do people in your country like to wear bright colors?

What are the differences between men and women’s preference in color?

Well, it depends. For instance, in the office I would go for darker clothes as they would let me look more formal and respectable. However, in the summertime I would definitely switch to lighter clothes because they wouldn't absorb as much heat as darker ones.

Yeah, I love dressing in blindly bright colours because they are energizing.

Do people in your country like to wear bright colours?

Well, the majority of people don't like to wear bright clothes as they don't want to stand out from the crowd and make themselves in the centre of attention.

What are the differences between men and women's preference in colour?

Well, there's no universal answer. I guess it is a personality and age that matter, not gender. For example, those who want to look more serious or conventional, be it men or women, would choose black or silver cars and dark clothes. Again, the older people are, the more they tend to use dark colors, whereas kids go for something bright.

6. What color would you never use in your home?

I would avoid stimulating colors, for instance, large splashes of red and yellow or sharp contrasting colors such as black and white. This is because my bedroom should be a place of peace and tranquility rather than a stimulating environment.

7. What color would you choose to paint the walls of your room?

I would rather choose blue for my bedroom as it is believed to guarantee the best night's sleep by reducing heart pressure and heart rate. However, I would balance it with warm hues for furnishings and fabrics.

5. Cakes

1. Have you ever made a cake yourself?

Yeah, last year I decided to make a cake for my husband's birthday because it was the least expected thing that I could do for him. My husband doesn't like cakes with a buttery taste. And he doesn't like too airy cakes either. So I chose to make a three-tier chocolate biscuit cake with a tender and moist texture. I found a video recipe on the Internet and asked my mom to help me as I was afraid to spoil everything. I baked several cakes and made chocolate mousse first. Then I assembled it, stacking the layers on top of each other. Also, I experimented with cake decorations a bit and finally decided on chocolate lace collars, decorating the outside of the bottom and middle cakes with them. The cake looked gorgeous. The crumb was delicate and moist, the frosting was rich and creamy and utterly chocolatey. It was filled with buttercream, fresh fruit, and nuts. I sprinkled the top tier of the cake with chocolate curls and dusted it with confectioners sugar. I was so excited as I just couldn't believe I managed to make it myself. It was the first time I had ever made a cake myself.

2. Do you like cakes?

Did you like cakes when you were a child?

Yeah, cake is my favourite foodstuff. It is the most versatile dessert as it comes in a huge variety of delicious flavour combinations. I really love chocolate tarts and tartlets with berries, cake with mascarpone or cream cheese, to name but a few. It's delicious. And believe it or not, cake helps me relieve the stress. Not only gain weight.

No, I don't... as I don't like any sugary things... except for a few kinds of fruits and berries. And I try to avoid eating unhealthy food.

3. Do you eat cake after meals?

Mostly, yes... as there's a tradition in my family to do so. Furthermore, a meal is never complete for me without a piece of delicious cake.

No, I seldom do it after meals. I usually eat cake in between meals or any time I feel I need to satisfy my sweet tooth. After meals I normally have no room for cake.

6. Sunglasses

1. Do you wear sunglasses?

Why do you wear sunglasses?

Do you wear sunglasses?

Of course, I do as I don't want to have either sun-related health problems or wrinkles around my eyes. What's more, I like to look trendy and cool.

Why do you wear sunglasses?

Well, I, first of all, wear sunglasses to protect my eyes from the sun. Though, sometimes I also put them on when I want to hide my emotions and insecurities or just try to avoid eye contact and conversations with some people.

2. How often do you buy sunglasses?

Oh, every time I find a new model I fall in love with, especially if it's the right model for my face, style and emotional needs.

3. Have you ever lost your sunglasses?

Plenty of times, to my regret. I once dropped my sunglasses in water, once left them in a taxi. I also remember the case when I lost them on amusement park rides. Oh, and of course, a hundred of cases when I lost them at home.

7. Social Media

1. Do you like using social media?

Do your friends use social media?

Of course I do as social media platforms allow me to be a part of community, not dictated by space or location, and give me an opportunity to talk about what I know and what I want to be known for, which, by the way, helps me attract potential professional and personal connections. Also, they let me easily learn about current events and things taking place in the world and allow me to hone in on what I really care about and what I really want to read.

2. What’s the most popular social media in your country?

I think by far the most popular social media is still Facebook cause it lets people make social connections, stay in touch with what friends are doing, share photos or videos with others and just fill up their free time.. Business people opt for professional networks such as LinkedIn and Xing 'cause they help resolve lots of business issues such as meeting customers, recruiting new employees, keeping up with the latest news in business and developing relationships with suppliers and colleagues.

3. What kind of people do you like to be friends with on those websites?

Well, I always send friend requests to people who inspire me to better myself, who have a great experience in my industry or people with insights to impart. I really like being friends with them cause they pull me out of my shell and introduce to new ideas, philosophies and activities spurring me into action and making me grow.

I really like to be friends with people whose views oppose mine. They are my teachers who push me to break out of my comfort zone and help open my eyes to different worldviews learning to accept people who don't see the world the way I see it.

4. What kind of social networking websites do you like to use?

Well, I mostly opt for professional networks such as LinkedIn and Xing cause they are a good assistant in my business issues such as meeting customers, recruiting new employees, keeping up with the latest news in business and developing relationships with suppliers and colleagues.

I really like Facebook cause it lets me make social connections, stay in touch with what friends are doing, share photos or videos with others and just fill up my free time whenever I have it.

5. What kind of chatting apps or software do people in your country like to use?

Well, I think it's either Facebook which lets people remain connected with friends, read the news and cater content to a large number of people or Instagram which gives people a chance to share professionally-edited photos and video, build business brands and make new friends.

8. Music

1. What kind of music do you like to listen to?

What kinds of music are most popular in your country?

What kinds of music do you like to listen to?

I am a music lover so I enjoy listening to different kinds of music because any music be it classical, electronic or pop creates some feelings in my soul. Moreover, different kinds of music influence me in different ways, for example classical music lessens depression whereas rock music evokes strong memories.

What kinds of music are most popular in your country?

I think people in my country mostly enjoy pop and rock. Pop music appeals to people with its catchy melodies and lyrics while rock is liked simply because it provides soundtracks for life experiences, motivates people and energizes them.

2. Have you ever learnt to play a musical instrument?

Is music an important subject at school in your country?

Have you ever learnt to play a musical instrument?

Yes, I have. When I was a kid I attended music school for several years. I tried playing several musical instruments such as the piano, the drums and the guitar but eventually I opted for the piano and I still can play several classical music pieces like The Four Seasons by Antonio Vivaldi or On the Beautiful Blue Danube by Johann Strauss.

Is music an important subject at school in your country?

Unfortunately music isn't considered to be an important subject at school in practice but it is of primary importance at its core cause musical training helps develop language and reasoning, math’s and pattern recognition skills. What is more, it builds imagination and intellectual curiosity, develops spatial intelligence and teaches kids discipline.

3. When did you start listening to that type of music?

I started listening to pop music at a very early age, I guess I was around 5 or 6 years old. This catchy and easy-listening music tempted me and I just couldn't help listening to it. As far as rock is concerned, I fell in love with it in my early twenties after I heard the Rolling Stones' 'Paint it black'.

4. Do you often listen to music?

6. Do you like listening to songs?

I am not a music fan. I don't like it in the background, especially when studying or reading. I do not really listen to music recreationally. I almost never listen to music.

Definitely I do. I enjoy listening to songs because they bring up specific memories, serve inspiration in my daily life and sometimes even provide the boost I need to meet a challenge

7. Have you ever been to a musical performance or concert?

Yes, I have. It was several years ago. I bought a ticket far in advance and really looked forward to that gig because I wanted to hear my favourite songs. I imagined myself singing along to them. But I didn't know any of the songs the band was playing as they were all from their new album that hadn't been released yet. Had I checked their setlist, I wouldn't have found myself in such a foolish situation.

8. Did you often listen to music when you were a child?

9. Collecting Things

1. What items are considered collectibles in your country?

Some of the most popular collectibles in my country are stamps. The rarer the stamp, the more valuable it is, and collectors might even travel far and wide in the search of highly-prized stamps. For example, 'Russian Warship, go...!' has become the most wanted stamp not only in my country, but in many countries all over the world. It was sold on Ebay for 1500 dollars. Classic cars, art, coins, NFTs and celebrity memorabilia are also popular collectible items with a high potential return on investment. I should say collecting cars isn't an option for everybody, but they are considered one of the coolest things to have. Children of all ages collect stickers, coins, badges, squishes, Happy Meal toys, Lego sets.

2. Is collecting a popular pastime in your country?

Do a lot of people in your country collect things?

Why do people like collecting?

Is collecting a popular pastime in your country?

Well, it certainly is. And I guess the main reason why it is so popular is simple: it's fun! I mean people find pleasure in searching for items to add to their collection. I think what they enjoy the most is the challenge of finding the items. Also, people enjoy collecting different things and grouping them in different ways. Some people who experience stress may use collecting as a form of escape. Others collect things in order to be part of their peer group. And I can't help mentioning one more reason - this comes from an instinct. Our ancestors learned skills of hunting and gathering supplies they needed for survival.

Do a lot of people in your country collect things?

Well, quite a lot, actually. And I guess the main reason why it is so is simple: it's fun!

3. What are the benefits of collecting?

Well, collecting things is a wonderful hobby which can help to expand people's mind, improve their mental capacity, and boost their mental health and overall wellbeing. The most important benefits it brings are the following. First of all, it builds a desire for knowledge because it's natural for collectors to want to know as much about their specialist subject as possible. Secondly, it inspires creativity as the more people experience, the more ideas and views they can pull from when trying to come up with something new. Also, it improves organizational thinking due to the need to sort and categorize the objects in collections, and builds observational skills as collectors are always on the lookout for new and rare objects that they can add to their collection which makes them much more mindful of the world around them. And, of course, it promotes relaxation and stress reduction as collecting provides a safe space where collectors can abandon their worries and just feel happy.

4. Do you collect things?

Well, actually, I do as it is the collection of the things I love and value that brings back my happy memories, connects me to some important periods of my life and gives me personal pleasure and enjoyment. What's more, it satisfies my natural hunting instinct and lets me enjoy the social interaction with fellow collectors. So, yeah, I do collect things, but I'm not a crazy collector. I don't spend all my money and free time on building out a collection.

10. Crowded places

1. How do you feel when you are in a crowded place?

Well, it pretty much depends on a situation. If I know that something pleasant and enjoyable is around the corner, being in a crowded place makes me feel excited. I mean I don't mind spending some time in a crowded airport or train station when I'm going on holiday. However, if it's a crowd of fans at the stadium, it makes me feel scared in any case as I understand that a crowd like this is absolutely uncontrollable and unmanageable. And I feel annoyed when shoppers in a street market are swarming around stalls so I have to squeeze through the crowd to get a closer look at anything that is sold. Also, I hate that crowd chaos after big sports events or concerts when the crowd literally drags me along and I just can't do anything about it. So, it depends.

2. When was the last time you were in a crowded place?

Well, just a couple of days ago. My friends and I visited a pub which was packed with people. There were so many people that I was afraid we would have to wait for ages to be served... Also, it was really noisy as all those people were talking simultaneously. To be honest, I was a little out of my element there.

3. What places do you think are often crowded?

Oh, I guess the ones which are meant for scores of people like train stations, airports, stadiums, shopping malls, all kinds of parks, and even restaurants and night clubs at weekends.

4. How often do you go to crowded places?

Well, once a week at least. I like going out with my friends on Friday nights and we usually visit clubs or cafes packed with people. So, once a week is sure as hell.

5. Do you like crowded places?

Well, I would say 'yes' as a crowded place is a sign of social proof for me, which is of primary importance in my age. What is more, I like the feeling of being a part of something special or being seen as a part of something popular, which also attracts me to crowded places and excites me the moment I get there. So, definitely yes, I crowded spots are my thing.

11. Being bored

1. What things are boring to you?

Well, to be honest, lots of things make me feel bored. But the ones that top the list are doing chores, queuing, being stuck in traffic jams and filling in some documents.

2. What do you do when you get bored?

Oh, I try to find something that will bring me pleasure like planning my next vacation, watching a movie or just going for a walk. The main thing is to switch off.

3. Do you ever get bored?

Thank god, almost never. I can get bored only if I lack interest to something I do, do the same thing over and over again or do nothing at all, which happens once in a blue moon.

4. Do you think school is boring?

Well, I wouldn't say that school itself is boring, though there are kids who find it boring due to some common reasons. One of such reasons is lack of challenge as, regrettably, the education system is not designed to challenge the brightest of the bunch. Another reason is lack of motivation either because kids may feel that none of the subjects they have at school is important enough as there may be other things they prefer to do or because of lack of understanding as when kids are struggling in certain subjects, it may feel easier for them to just shut down.

5. Do you feel more bored now than when you were young?

Fortunately not... as I have learnt how to deal with boredom for years of my life. Being a teenager I just didn't have any experience in combating this psychological state and so suffered from it more often. Now, the moment I start feeling bored, I do my best to switch off.

12. Singing

1. Do you think singing can bring happiness to people?

Oh, not only can but actually singing DOES make people happy as each time people sing, their brain releases feel-good chemicals called endorphins which boost people's happiness and love hormone oxytocin which helps people to relieve stress and anxiety. Plus, some people start feeling happier when they get an opportunity to express their emotions and feelings.

2. Do you often sing?

When do you like to sing?

Do you often sing?

Well, quite often. I do it every morning when I have a shower and every evening when I want to get away from my problems and relax. I also sing when I am happy and when I want to make people around me smile. Oh, and whenever I hear the song I like. So yeah, I sing almost all the time.

When do you like to sing?

Oh, I enjoy singing when I hear the song I like or when I want to attract someone's attention. I also often do it when I want to express myself and what I feel or when my mood strikes pushing my heart and soul to sing and have fun.

3. Is it difficult to sing well?

I guess it isn't if you are extremely gifted or if you practise daily taking singing classes or using a good vocal training program. Regular practice helps people discover the full potential of their voice and take advantage of it so I don't think it's too hard when singing skills are well-developed.

4. Do you want to be a singer?

Oh yes, I love singing and want to let everyone know about it touching their hearts with my songs. Singing is a big part of my life so, yeah, I can say this is my dream career.

Oh no, I don't. First of all, I am too shy to perform live on stage in front of a large crowd. I am also quite bad at acting which is important for a professional singer. What is more, I think it's a very hard job, so no, I wouldn't even like to try.

5. What kinds of music do you like to sing?

Well, I really enjoy singing ballads 'cause they are typically slow and have an emotional touch owing to the lyrical content. I also like country songs for their meaningful lyrics and soothing tunes and, of course, for those good stories which they tell.

Well, metal songs are the ones that appeal to me most of all. I guess it's because they give me the feeling of being powerful which is important for a man. What is more, they are not confined by anything and that's why give me the feeling of freedom which makes me happy and energized.

13. Advertising

1. How do you feel about advertisements?

Do you like advertisements?

Do you like advertisements on TV?

How do you feel about advertisements?

Well, I hate ads as they've become simply unbearable. For example, there are magazines 200 pages long with only about 50, if that many, readable pages. I also hate it when I look for some information on the Net and constantly come across the pages where the content exists just to serve the marketing purposes or the most valuable information is buried under a heap of ads.

Do you like advertisements?

I don't really like ads, so I just try to tune out. You know, you get used to ads being all around you and it's kind of like anything in your home, once it's been there for a while, you just stop paying your attention to it.

Do you like advertisements on TV?

I actually ignore advertisements as much as I can as they are nothing more than just an annoyance between plot twists in my favourite TV shows and films, so I turn off the sound on TV during ads. I installed an AdBlocker on my browser because incessant pop-up ads used to distract my attention and slow down my surfing the Net, thus, making it next to impossible to actually enjoy the content on the page.

2. Is there much advertising in your country?

What are the different places where we see advertisements?

What advertising do you have in your country?

Is there much advertising in your country?

Yeah, nowadays there seems to be no place beyond the reach of advertising. Ads plaster urban areas, interrupt TV shows and constantly pop up on the screen of a computer or smartphone.

What are the different places where we see advertisements?

Oh, they seem to be plastering the whole city. Even in the most unlikely locations... We cannot even go to a bathroom in a cafe without being bombarded by marketing messages.

What advertising do you have in your country?

Nowadays, there are numerous ways that companies use to target their audience. If you watch a football match, you are likely to see an example of corporate sponsorship. I mean a logo of some company on each player's T-shirt. There are also banner ads that clutter up the Internet. Finally, oftentimes you can see people distributing leaflets. And, of course, there are hoardings that literally plaster cities.

14. 1. Celebrities

1. Who is your favourite celebrity in your country?

Well, a famous person in my country I love most of all is X. I love her a lot because she is one of the greatest singers I have ever heard. She has a sweet voice and amazing lyrics and her singing is always flawless and mesmerizing. What is more, she is a health icon who embraces a perfect healthy combo of both regular exercise and a good diet, which I adore.

2. Do you want to be a celebrity?

Well, both yes and no. Yes because I want to have a high status lifestyle as all celebrities do and want to become a role model to others. But no because a celebrity status can attract too many fake friends and deprive me of an opportunity to do things that an average person can like having a quiet dinner with family at a local restaurant.

3. Do you read news about celebrities?

Well, I do but really seldom, only when I have no better options how to spend my free time. Frankly speaking, I don't see any sense in reading celebrity stories but sometimes I opt for them 'cause they are a way for me to escape from my daily routine. That's it.

4. Have you ever met celebrities face to face?

Oh, yeah. Once I was lucky to meet Angelina Jolie at my friend's birthday party. It was a couple of years ago but I still cherish the memory of our small talk with her and keep a photo with her autograph.

1. How can you save money?

Oh, there are lots of ways, actually. For example, by keeping track of all my expenses and identifying non-essentials that I can spend less on. Or by planning my spending and limiting overspending.

2. Why do people save money

Did you save money when you were young?

Why do people save money?

Well, I think, first of all, people save money to become financially independent and be able to afford something they don't have money for at the moment. I also know people who save money in order to get out of debt or be able to cover unforeseen expenses.... and, of course, I know those who put money aside to survive in case of bad times.

Did you save money when you were young?

Oh yeah, I did. I didn't have a lot of money back then but I already wanted to buy high-quality stuff. So the only way for me to buy it was to save money, which I did.

16. Fishing

1. Have you ever been to a place where there are lots of fish around you?

Yes, I've been to a place where there were lots of fish around me. During one of my trips, I visited the Dubai aquarium, which is the 10-million-liter Dubai Aquarium tank located on the Ground Level of The Dubai Mall. It's one of the largest suspended aquariums in the world, so you can only imagine how many fishes there were around.

Have you ever been to a place where there are lots of fish around you?

During one of my trips, I visited Plitvice Lakes National Park, which is the largest national park in Croatia. As I explored the park, I saw crystal-clear streams filled with trout. There were so many trout that I could barely see the water. I'm not kidding. There were literally more fish than water.

2. Is fishing popular in your country?

Yes, fishing is quite popular in my country. We have many lakes, rivers, and coastal areas which make this activity possible because, without these water bodies, there wouldn't be any fishing. Plus, there's a strong fishing culture here, with plenty of fishing tournaments and events happening throughout the year.

No, fishing isn't particularly popular in my country. We have limited access to suitable fishing spots, and it's not a widely practiced hobby or industry here.

3. Do you like eating fish?

Oh, absolutely, I enjoy eating fish. In my view, it's one of the healthiest foods out there. It's low in fat but packed with essential fatty acids, vitamins, and minerals. And I really appreciate its aroma and flavor. Plus, someone told me it's a food that helps people sleep better at night.

4. Why do people go fishing?

Fishing is a really enjoyable thing to do as it lets people unplug, lowers anxiety and instills a sense of calm. Also, it's a great way to spend quality time with friends or family members who they share this hobby with. Oh, and I almost forgot to mention that it's a perfect way to keep fit without doing any exercises as fishing engages the shoulders, back, arms, core and legs. I mean it's almost the same as doing static yoga postures.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

17. Robots

1. Are robots important?

Absolutely. First, robots are tireless workers. Unlike humans, robots do not experience fatigue, need rest breaks, or require sleep, which means they can work continuously without a drop in productivity. More importantly, robots can be used in dangerous places like nuclear power plants or areas hit by disasters, to take on tasks that would put humans at risk.

2. How can robots affect people's lives?

In many different ways. Robots can make people's lives easier and more comfortable. For example, they can automate household chores like cleaning, vacuuming, and lawn mowing. They can enhance human capabilities. For example, exoskeletons can assist individuals with mobility challenges in walking and performing physical tasks, while robotic prosthetics can restore lost functionalities like gripping objects or walking. However, robots can have a negative impact on employment as, being tireless workers, they have the potential to displace human workers from certain jobs and industries.

3. Are you interested in robots?

Yeah. I've been interested in robotics for as long as I can remember. For example, when I was a child, I built robots from a Lego set. I also read science-fiction books and was fascinated by movies such as Star Wars. And now I'm trying to learn the basics of designing robots. I mean I like to read articles that have anything to do with robotics.

4. Would you like robots to work at your home?

On the one hand, I'd love to as a robot could do chores such as cleaning and organizing things, which I hate to do. And this would save a lot of my time. Also, I like the idea of having an automated machine which could recognize human speech and do some specific tasks. For example, I could ask a robot to bring a glass of water or make a cup of coffee, and I'd just give orders, sitting on a couch.

5. Do you want to take a car in which a robot is the driver?

To be honest, I'm in two minds about it. On the one hand, I'd like to as most car crashes are the result of human error. And if I have a car in which a robot is a driver, this might be safer as a robot won't be affected by such things as alcohol, drugs, distractions, carelessness, and fatigue, which cause the majority of accidents. However, we all know that even the most advanced technology isn't infallible, and a computer malfunction, even just a minor glitch, could cause worse crashes than anything that human error might bring about.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

18. Geography

1. Have you ever learned Geography?

Yeah. I learned Geography in school and college. In high school, we explored different countries, cultures, and how everything fits together. Later in college, we continued with more detailed stuff about the world. It was interesting and gave me a better understanding of what's happening globally. So, Geography was a part of my learning journey. And it was one of my favourite subjects.

2. Do you think Geography is useful?

Yes, I believe geography is incredibly useful. It helps us understand the world around us. For example, it teaches us about different climates, ecosystems, and how landforms impact our lives. And this knowledge is essential for things like environmental protection and disaster management.

Do you think Geography is useful?

Absolutely, I think geography is very practical. It gives us valuable skills like map reading and spatial awareness. When you travel, having the ability to navigate and understand the geography of a place is indispensable. I mean knowing how to figure out where you are, read maps, and get a sense of how a new place is set up can make your trip a whole lot better. It keeps you from getting lost or feeling all mixed up, so you can enjoy your adventure to the fulles

3. Do you like Geography?

Yeah, to me, Geography is the synonym for travelling and exploring the world around us. Geography is exciting. It's much more than just studying maps and knowledge of country capitals. It's really interesting to explore the physical properties of Earth's surface and to study places and the relationships between people and their environments... to examine what impact physical properties of the Earth, such as mountain ranges and bodies of water have on the way humans move, think, and act... I love geography 'cause it's fun.

4. Do you ever want to travel to a country because of its geographical location?

Yeah, whenever I want to go skiing or hiking, I choose a mountainous country. If I want to have a beach holiday, I go to a country that is washed by the sea or the ocean and where the weather is always warm. Also, I want to go to some countries to see some strange geographical formations. For example, I'm dreaming of going to Finland to see the Giant Rock. It's a 7-meter long boulder that has been balancing on top of another huge rock for more than 10 thousand years. The contact point between these two rocks is rather small, and it looks as though the upper rock is performing an impossible balancing act, but it cannot be rocked with human force. It's amazing. Plus, I want to go to Mexico to visit the Cave of Crystals. And I would be happy to go to China to see the Reed Flute Cave, a beautifully coloured limestone cave, and the Shilin Stone Forest.

19. Gifts

1. How do we choose gifts?

When picking gifts for friends or family, we typically begin by thinking about what they like. For example, if the recipient is into gardening, we might look for a nice plant or gardening tools. It's all about finding something that resonates with their hobbies and preferences.

2. What kind of gifts are popular in your country?

What’s the best gift you have ever received?

What do you give others as gifts?

Well, people in my country really like to give books and handmade gifts as well as home décor presents such as frames, figurines and candles. All these things create comfort and remind the receiver of the giver's love and affection. Many people also give flowers and chocolates, especially as "Thank you" presents and cash as a birthday or wedding gift.

3. Do you like to give expensive gifts?

Oh, yeah, I do. First of all, I do it because I can afford it and, of course, because I like to fulfil dreams of my beloved people feeling as happy as them when they get what they really dreamt about.

Oh no, I don't. Expensive gifts mean more pressure on my monthly expense, which, in turn, means I will have to refuse from something I really need in order to please another person with something costly. What is more, I don't want to buy anybody's love with material things. I'd better do it with actions.

4. How often do you buy gifts for other people?

Why do people give gifts?

How often do you buy gifts for other people?

Well, I usually give presents on special occasions like birthdays and weddings to mark milestones and bring joy and pleasure to the receiver. From time to time I also buy gifts to cheer close people up or let them know that I care.

Why do people give gifts?

I guess there are a lot of reasons why people do it. For example, to show interest and appreciation, or express gratitude to others. People also give gifts to mark milestones and just bring joy and pleasure to the ones they love.

5. Have you ever received a gift which you didn't like?

Oh yeah, it happened to me a while ago. I got a key box from my mate which I didn't like at all as it was big and heavy enough and I just couldn't come up with an idea when and where to use it. And still, I struggled to bring a smile to my face to show gratitude to the giver as any present,/u>, to my mind, is worth a 'thank you'.

20. Running

1. What do you think of running as a form of exercise?

I'm positive that running is a great way to stay fit and healthy 'cause, first of all, it's a simple but very effective form of exercise. It helps improve cardiovascular health, and it's an excellent way to build and strengthen leg muscles. What's more, almost anyone, regardless of their physical condition or age, can engage in running as it has limited contraindications. Plus, it's a low-cost way to get exercise. You can do it almost anywhere, anytime; and you don't need any equipment to go for a run. So, I think it's a great form of exercise.

2. Do you like running?

Oh yeah, I'm a big fan of running and I just can't imagine my life without it as it gives me a sense of escape from everyday distractions and brings me a lot of joy. What is more, it's a great cardio- and muscle-building activity which improves my fitness and keeps me healthy. So, yeah, I'm hooked on running.

Not really. I'm too lazy for it. It makes me exhausted really fast and leaves me dispirited. So, regrettably, running is not my cup of tea despite all its health benefits.

3. Where do you run?

Where do you go running?

Well, in cold weather, I usually run on the treadmill in the gym as I don't like the feeling of the cold air on my face and the wind blowing through my hair. But in warm weather, I prefer running along some scenic trails either in the park or near the river.

4. How often do you run?

Do you go running a lot?

Well, it mostly depends on my mood. Sometimes I do it every morning, especially if I'm on vacation somewhere in the mountains or near the sea. Sometimes I run only at weekends when I'm not in a rush to be at work at 8 sharp. But, generally, I try to run at least two or three times a week in order to improve my mental well-being and tone my muscles. I just really want to become more strong and healthy.

21. Films

1. Do you like to watch films?

Oh yeah, I do as movies always give me thrilling experience by taking me to places quite different from my routine surroundings. They allow me to experience the situations I wouldn't normally experience and this way broaden my perspective and open my eyes to new wonders.

Well, no, as it happens so that whenever I have a couple of spare hours I give my preference to reading a book.

2. What kinds of movies do you like best?

Well, I guess action films for sure. They attract me with their non-stop motion, spectacular rhythm and pacing. What's more, I like their two-dimensional 'good guy' heroes battling 'bad guys' as the age-old struggle between good and evil is always interesting. Another kind of movies that I like is drama. I think I like it so much because of realistic characters, settings and life situations. And, of course, I cannot fail to mention comedies. I like them for their light-hearted plots which amuse and provoke laughter.

3. How often do you go to a cinema to watch a movie?

Did you usually go to the cinema when you were a kid?

Well, I go to a cinema every time there is a new release. My friends call me a movie freak but I just enjoy watching films on the big screen and getting pulled into the sound and colour in a way that can't be felt at home.

Do people in your country like to go to a cinema to watch a film?

I guess yes as there are always a lot of people at the cinema. Cinemas are in great demand as they let people focus on the movie and not get distracted, which people value. What's more, it's a good way to spend time out.

4. What was the first film that you watched?

Oh, I can't recall it, to my regret, but this must have been some movie for kids like 'Home alone' or some Walt Disney animated film like 'Sleeping Beauty' or 'The Little Mermaid'.

5. Do you like to watch movies alone or with your friends?

Do you like to go to the cinema with your friends?

Personally I like to watch films alone as I get to watch exactly what I want. What's more, it's a kind of the ultimate 'me time' with no conversations and other distractions.

6. Do you prefer foreign films or films made in your country?

Oh, foreign movies, no doubt. They show me a different view of the world and give me more of a glimpse into the human experience. What is more, they are of a better quality than the films made in my country. So, my preference is always given to foreign films.

Well, I always give my preference to films made in my country as they always have an interesting storyline and it's hard to guess what is waiting for me at the end. What is more, I like our actors and actresses and enjoy watching movies they star in.

22. Coffee and Tea

1. Are tea and coffee popular in your country?

Do people like tea or coffee nowadays?

Oh, I guess they are a large part of our modern culture and the country's most popular non-alcoholic beverages. I've even heard several times that we are the nation of tea and coffee drinkers, so yeah, they are definitely popular in X.

2. Do you prefer to drink tea or coffee?

Do you like tea and coffee?

Do you often drink coffee and tea?

I like tea much more than coffee because tea can energize and detox body. However, unlike coffee, it doesn't cause dependence. Oh... And I don't like the bitter taste of coffee.

Do you like tea and coffee?

Yeah... I really love both beverages. I guess it's because they provide cozy morning rituals and boosts of energy during midday slumps and, secondly, because they are both delicious and healthy as they are loaded with nutrients and antioxidants.

23. Noise

1. Do you mind noises?

Do any noises bother you?

Do you mind noises?

I would say I'm pretty tolerant to noises when I'm not asleep as I've learned to cut out the unwanted ones. But when I am about to fall asleep, I become very sensitive to any kind of noise, and nearly anything can make me irritated. Sometimes I toss and turn throughout the night just because I hear the muffled sound of slammed doors in the flat next door.

Do any noises bother you?

There's no worse noise than scraping chalk on a blackboard. You know, many cafes still use such boards as an advertising medium. When I see them, I can't help imagining the way this information was written down. And even the thought of it makes me feel sick.

2. Do you think there’s too much noise in today’s world?

Yeah, the level of noise is getting higher and higher. In fact, it is so high that it is now regarded a type of environmental pollution. This is because nowadays cities are more crowded than in the past, which means that there's much more traffic on roads. There are more people talking everywhere. Oh, and I nearly forgot to mention air conditioning equipment which is one of the biggest parts of all ambient noise in today's cities.

3. What type of noise do you come across in your daily life?

We are surrounded by different sounds both indoors and outdoors. My typical day starts with the sound of boiling water as I can't imagine my morning without a cup of coffee. Every single day I'm accompanied by roaring engines, slammed doors, mouse clicking and constantly ringing phones.

4. Are there any sounds that you like?

Oh yeah! Splashing waves and screams of sea-gulls sound like music to me. I also enjoy the sound of rain when I'm inside and don't have to go anywhere. And I can't help mentioning the train tracks clanking in a constant pattern. This sound makes me fall asleep as soon as the train leaves.

24. Musical instruments

1. Have you ever learnt to play a musical instrument?

Is music an important subject at school in your country?

Have you ever learnt to play a musical instrument?

Yes, I have. When I was a kid I attended music school for several years. I tried playing several musica instruments such as the piano, the drums and the guitar but eventually I opted for the piano and I still can play several classical music pieces like The Four Seasons by Antonio Vivaldi or On the Beautiful Blue Danube by Johann Strauss.

Is music an important subject at school in your country?

Unfortunately music isn't considered to be an important subject at school in practice but it is of primary importance at its core cause musical training helps develop language and reasoning, maths and pattern recognition skills. What is more, it builds imagination and intellectual curiosity, develops spatial intelligence and teaches kids discipline.

25. Helping others

1. Do you usually help people around you?

Oh yes, I do. I believe in lending a hand whenever I can. For instance, recently, my neighbor needed help moving some heavy furniture, and I gladly assisted. It's just a small way to make our community a better place.

2. How do you help people around you, such as neighbors, family and friends?

Well, with my family, I often assist with household chores like cooking and cleaning. My mom appreciates it, and it's a way to show my gratitude for all she does for me. With friends, I'm there to listen when they have problems, and I offer advice if they need it. Recently, I helped my neighbor by moving their lawn when they were away. It's all about being supportive and kind, I believe.

How do you help people around you, such as neighbors, family and friends?

I try to help in various ways. With family, I'm the go-to tech person, so I help with computer issues and setting up gadgets. It's a small way to make their lives easier. For neighbors, we have a little community garden, and I love taking care of it. It brings everyone together and provides fresh produce. And with friends, I often organize get-togethers or outings to strengthen our bond. Helping can be about creating positive experiences too.

3. Do your parents teach you how to help others?

Yes, my parents definitely teach me how to help others. They often remind me to be kind and considerate, and they lead by example. We volunteer as a family at our local shelter, which has been a great way to learn the importance of giving back to the community.

4. Did your parents help you a lot when you were young?

Yes, my parents were incredibly supportive when I was young. They helped me with my schoolwork, always attended my extracurricular activities, and made sure I had everything I needed to succeed. Their encouragement played a significant role in my development.

26. Maps

1. When was the first time when you used a map?

How often do you use a map?

Did you learn to use a map when you were a child?

When was the first time when you used a map?

Well, I think it was in my childhood when I started travelling around the world. I always used the map coming to a new country in order to develop my geographical understanding of the area I visited and simply track the routes I needed.

How often do you use a map?

Well, often enough, actually. I have a lot of trips around the country and always use a map to find the place I need or just find out what is around me.

Did you learn to use a map when you were a child?

I guess yes as I started using maps when I was a child. I mainly did it for planning my trips with parents and friends and for searching locations on those trips. So yeah, I definitely learnt to use maps in my childhood.

2. Are you good at reading maps?

Well, I guess I am as with their help I always easily find the place I need or find out what is around me. Also, it's never a problem for me to track the route I need or find out information about places of interest when I read a map. So yeah, I'm good enough at reading maps, I think.

3. Do you prefer electronic or paper maps?

Oh, I adore electronic maps for sure as they may always be with me and can include any area. I also like them for being more accurate and more up-to-date. Though paper maps are also good for particular reasons, for example for visiting more rural settings where the phone signal can drop out.

27. Chatting

1. What do you like to talk about?

Well, about myself, I guess. I mean about my accomplishments, what I like and dislike, what I do, how I spend my free time, what worries me, what makes me happy and stuff like this. I also like to talk about travelling, shopping and fashion. Oh, and about pets as well.

2. Have your discussion topics changed since you were a child?

Well, frankly speaking, I don't remember what I discussed when I was a kid, but I am more than sure that my present-day debate topics are different as my interests have changed significantly since my childhood.

28. Clothes

1. What kind of clothes do you like to wear?

What kind of clothes do you never wear?

Do you wear the same style of clothes on weekdays and weekends?

I prefer a dressy casual style as I like when my clothes emphasize my status. Also, what you have on sets the tone for how you behave. For this reason, I like wearing business suits, dress trousers, turtlenecks, dress shirts and leather jackets. Almost all grayscale look.

2. What color clothes do you like to wear?

Do people in your country like to wear bright colors?

What are the differences between men and women’s preference in color?

Well, it depends. For instance, in the office I would go for darker clothes as they would let me look more formal and respectable. However, in the summertime I would definitely switch to lighter clothes because they wouldn't absorb as much heat as darker ones.

Again, the older people are, the more they tend to use dark colours, whereas kids go for something bright.

29. Transportation

1. What's the most popular means of transportation in your hometown?

How do you go to work or school?

What's the most popular means of transportation in your hometown?

I can safely say that the majority of people here get around by subway. The main reason is that you don't have to worry about a possibility of getting stuck in a traffic jam. Also, trains run frequently, therefore people get anywhere in time even during peak hours. In addition, this mode of transport is relatively inexpensive, reliable and really comfortable.

Do you prefer public transportation or private transportation?

I prefer getting around in a private vehicle because I don't like to be dependent on other people. I like the idea that I can stop whenever and wherever I want. I can take as much stuff with me as need. I can speak loudly and sing. So, although many of my friends say that the amount of money I spent to purchase my car could generally finance public transit fees for years, I'm not planning to switch to mass transit.

2. Will you use public transport more in the future?

Well, I'd love to 'cause I think this is the only way to fight global warming and environmental pollution, but taking into account the current situation in the world, I don't think I will. In my opinion, mass transit and social distancing are incompatible, especially during rush hour. And even if I do my best to keep a safe distance, wear a mask and avoid touching surfaces, the risk of catching COVID-19 on trains and buses is quite high because this disease is highly contagious. I just don't want to jeopardize my health. I think I won't use public transport unless absolutely necessary. I will drive, walk or cycle more.

3. Are there any traffic problems in your area?

Oh, in my city, I guess, it is traffic congestion that is the major problem. During rush hours the city centre and the main roads are blocked by vehicles which move so slowly that it seems they don't move at all.

4. How would you improve transport in your town or area?

How would you reduce traffic problems in your area?

How do you think public transport could be improved?

Firstly, it is absolutely imperative that buses be made to stop at designated bus stops and have scheduled routes. The problem is that having spotted a person flagging down, bus drivers stop wherever they want as they seem to feel kings of the road. Such sudden and abrupt stopping of buses often causes minor rear end collisions and tailbacks as there's barely enough room to let other vehicles pass and everybody is in a hurry. It would also be great if roads were mended because dodging potholes is what drivers have to constantly do instead of moving smoothly and uninterruptedly. And this again makes cars move slowly and leads to car accidents.
